Description	:	OBITUARY: Tama Co. Democrat, 14 Apr 1898 Michael Musel, one of the early pioneers of Tama county passed away Monday, April 4, at 4 pm at the home of his son John Musel. He was born in Pacore, Bohemia, January 6 1804, hence was 94 years, 2 months, 28 days old at the time of his death. In 1855 Mr. Musel and family emigrated to America and settled at Iowa City. Democrat, 14 Apr 1898 Michael Musel, one of the early pioneers of Tama county passed away Monday, April 4, at 4 pm at the home of his son John Musel. He was born in Pacore, Bohemia, January 6 1804, hence was 94 years, 2 months, 28 days old at the time of his death. In 1855 Mr. Musel and family emigrated to America and settled at Iowa City. After remaining there a month he removed to Tama county and purchased land in Otter Creek and settled permanently. There were at the time only a few families living at a considerable distance and the only trading post, seventy miles distant, where he did his trading. The time usually required for a round trip with oxen, the means of travel at the time, was nearly a week. In spite of all difficulties and hardships he, through his integrity and perseverance, prospered rapidly. Their home was blessed with twelve children, nine boys and three girls; six of whom survive him. John of Otter Creek, Jacob and Joseph of Chelsea, Albert of Belle Plaine, Frank of Minnesota and Mike of Nebraska. One daughter, Mrs. Chezek, died in 1903, one son was burned to death and the others died in infancy. In 1880 the wife and mother was called from this earth to the better land. In his religious belief Mr. Musel has always been one of the best friends and supporters of the Catholic church and donated two bells to the St. Joseph church at Chelsea. The funeral which was largely attended was conducted from the Catholic church at Chelsea, April 7, Rev. Father Kloss officiating. The interment was at the Catholic cemetery north of Chelsea where he was laid to rest by the side of his wife. May his soul receive a reward according to its merits. The pall bearers were V. Blazek, N. Sells, Mr. Vranek, Mr. Vondrak, Mr. Stanek and John Lef. - - - - - OBITUARY: OBIT: Grandpa Michael Musel of whom we made brief mention last week, was buried on the 6th of April, at high noon at the Catholic cemetery. He was laid by the side of his wife, who departed this life about twenty years ago. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Father Gloss [Kloss].
