Mrs. Janulewicz passed away October 26, 1907 when some of the children were very young, the youngest only a few days. Mr. Janulewicz maintained the home bringing up his children to be useful citizens and though all of them have grown up and all married but one his home was the headquarters for the children when they came to Loup City. The children who remain to mourn the death of their father are: Edward C., Floyd S., and John all of Loup City, Mrs. Katherine Misek(o) of Columbus, Nebraska, Leonard of Bridgeport, Nebraska, Nellie Woznick of Greeley county, Nebraska, Helena Beem of Santa Paula, California, Martin of Omaha and Emma Kellman of Denver, Colorado. Besides the children, deceased leaves to mourn his death eighteen grand children and one great grand child, also one brother Egnatz, who resides east of town. Mr. Janulewicz is one of the founders of St. Josaphat's Catholic Church in Loup City and a devoted member. Flowers were a hobby with him and he always had them in large numbers and loved to give them to his friends. Some one recently told him of the nice flowers he had and he remarked that he could not be he to take care of them next year, no doubt having a pre-monition [sic] that he would be called home soon. Funeral services were held Friday forenoon from St. Josaphat's Catholic Church, the place of worship he helped to found and promote, the services being in charge of Rev. Father Szczerkowski, and interment was in the Catholic cemetery. ------------------------ The Sherman County Times - Jul 29 1932 DIED AFTER SHORT ILLNESS Mat Janulewicz, Influential Citizen of Loup City Passes Away. After an illness of less than forty-eight hours, Mat Janulewicz, an old friend and neighbor of the entire community passed away at his home about 10 o'clock Wednesday evening, July 27. Mr. Janulewicz may have been sick for some time, but he kept his trouble to himself. He did not look his usual self the past two months, but he was around every day and was down town Tuesday morning. About noon Tuesday he suffered a severe pain in the stomach and from that time on there was no relief other than from opiates and the belief is he had a cancer which ruptured an intestine and was the cause of his death. Mat Janulewicz was an old familiar figure in Loup City and numbered his friends by his acquaintances, always jolly and always radiating sunshine and going what he could to help others. Born in Lithuania, Poland, September 21, 1860, he was 71 years, 10 months and 6 days old at the time of his death. He came to the United States in 1881 when he was 21 years of age and lived in Colorado one year, where he railroaded and a year later, in 1882, he came to Sherman county and took a homestead north of Loup City, which place he owned at the time of his death. He did not live on the farm many years when he moved to Loup City, which had been his home up to the time of his death.
