High, 82, Funeral Friday Funeral services for Mathias Pennypacker High, 82, who died early Wednesday morning, May 23, at the home of his son, Harold east of Emmetsburg after an illness of several years, were held at 1:30 Friday afternoon, May 25, at the High home and at 2 o'clock at the Methodist church here. The Rev. Paul R. Johnson, pastor, officiated. It was the first funeral held in the recently completed church. Interment was in Evergreen cemetery with the Foy Funeral home in charge of arrangements. Haag, Albert Damstrom, Robert Mulroney, Chris Schroeder, Charles Stillman and Lewis Gunn, Active pallbearers were Frank Stayer, Orville Banwart, Joe Kraninger, Jr., Dwight Ankeny, H. V. Wilson and Edward Wollner. Mathias Pennypacker High, son of John and Sarah High, was born on April 27, 1869, at Davenport, Scott county. He was united in marriage at Davenport March 18, 1897, to Elizabeth Smith. They moved to Battle Creek in Ida county in 1904 and then to Palo Alto county in 1915, residing on farms in both counties. The Highs were the parents of seven children, two of who are deceased. The surviving children are Harold Edward; Wade Parker and Walter Lee High of Emmetsburg, Mrs. Leslie (Edith) Dickison and Mrs. Gene (Ethel) Drew of Cylinder. A son, Raymond John, died in 1918 and a daughter, Edna Naomi, preceded Mrs. High in death in 1941. He is survived by one sister, Mrs. E. J. Berner of Los Angeles, Calif., and seven grandchildren. Mrs. High died in 1938. Mr. High was active in community affairs, having acted as township trustee and school director for many years in Nevada township. He was also Democratic committeeman and a member of the A. A. A. committee. Mr. High loved his family and enjoyed having them around him. He also enjoyed fishing as a hobby and spent much of his spare time in later years in the enjoyment of it. Those from a distance who came to attend the funeral of Mr. High were G. R. High, Cedar Rapids; C. A. High, Davenport; W. C. Sheets, Marion; Mr. and Mrs. Ray Smith and Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Fell, Dewitt; Mr. and Mrs. Herman Jessen, Battle Creek; Mr. and Mrs. George Duke and Leona, Storm Lake; Mrs. Donald Holderness and son, Charles City; Mr. and Mrs. Joe Kraninger and Joe Kraninger, Jr. Alta Vista.
