Description	:	Mathias was married three times. His Second wife was Dorcas (Nee: Freeman) Burleigh, widow of John Burleigh British loyalist killed at the battle of Saratoga. Mathias was a British loyalist during the American Revolution. He was in Burgoyne's camp when the Americans surrounded it, and was taken prisoner. He was later set free and joined Major Jessup's Loyal Rangers as a private. 8 September 1780: William Rogers, Matthias Rose and Simon Earhart were brought before this Board for having been with the Enemy, and it appearing from the information of Major General Schuyler, that they had been seduced to... He was later set free and joined Major Jessup's Loyal Rangers as a private. 8 September 1780: William Rogers, Matthias Rose and Simon Earhart were brought before this Board for having been with the Enemy, and it appearing from the information of Major General Schuyler, that they had been seduced to go off by Jessup and Jones and that he conceived they might with safety be permitted to return to their place of abode. [Apr. 16, 1778]. Under date of 8 September 1780: Resolved that Matthias Rose [and others] be severally cited to appear before this Board on the 24th day of September instant with sufficient sureties to enter into new recotgnizance's. And, at a meeting 3 October 1780: Matthias Rose having been cited to appear before this Board to enter into a new Recognizance appeared for that Purpose with a sufficient surety.
