Read More	Mathias William Harre was born in Melle, Germany, March 9, 1872, the son of Henry and Elizabeth (Wiszmann) Harre. Coming to America with his parents at the age of nine, he had made his home in Exeter Township since that time. He lived on the farm his father homesteaded until 1918, when he moved with his family to the farm where he resided at the time of his death. He was the last surviving member of the Harre family, his parents; one brother; three sisters, Mrs. Henry Allewelt, Miss Anna, Mrs. Peter Michaely, and a half-sister, Mrs. August Winkler, having preceded him in death. October 6, 1896, he was united in marriage to Miss Anna Becker at St. Stephen's Catholic Church in Exeter. To this union six children were born. October 3, 1910, his wife, Anna passed away. From that time on he was both father and mother to his five small children, the oldest, Anna, having died at birth. Another deep sorrow came to him in the loss of one son, Aloysius, who passed away January 6, 1933. Surviving him is one daughter, Margaret, Mrs. Aloys Allewelt; sons, John, Bernard and Jerome; 33 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; one son-in-law and three daughters-in-law, several nieces and nephews and many friends. "Grandpa" Harre, as he had come to be known, was a respected and honored member of the Exeter community. He was beloved by all the members of his family, and hie will be sorely missed. Especially will he be missed from the family circle, where he and his youngest son, Jerome, his wife Henrietta and their children, had lived together the past 22 years. The loving memory of his kindly presence will ever linger in this home, as a gentle reminder of grandpa's piety, kindness and his patient disposition. Grandpa Harre passed away Sunday morning, July 20, 1958, at the Friend Hospital following a brief illness. The Requiem funeral Mass was said by Rt. Rev. H. H. Ingenhorst at St. Stephen's Church Tuesday, July 22. Mr. Harre had been a devoted member of the church his entire life. Three grandsons, Steve, Leon and Joseph Harre, and two great-grandsons, Glen and Richard Coffey, were altar boys. Six grandsons, Robert, Frank, Thomas, James, Jerome E. and Kenneth were pallbearers.
