Description	:	Matilda Cooley was the youngest daughter of Thaddeus and Elizabeth Cooley, born in Wythe County, Virginia circa 1796, no birth record available. She was listed as daughter Matilda Stuart in her father's Last Will in Oct 1814 in Wythe Co. No record of her first marriage has been found. Matilda second married her cousin, John Snodgrass, on 24 Nov 1818 in Wythe Co, VA. Matilda's brother John Cooley had previously married Martha Snodgrass, elder sister of John Snodgrass. Matilda second married her cousin, John Snodgrass, on 24 Nov 1818 in Wythe Co, VA. Matilda's brother John Cooley had previously married Martha Snodgrass, elder sister of John Snodgrass. John and Matilda moved to Jessamine Co, KY by 1820, near to her nephew Reuben Cooley. About 1824, John and Matilda crossed the Ohio River into Indiana, in Rush and Fayette Counties. John died before 1840 in Indiana, and several of Matilda's young daughters lived with other family. Her daughter Margaret lived with Uncle/Aunt John and Martha Cooley in La Porte Co, IN. Matilda last married Samuel Elain Ellithorpe on 13 Jan 1840 in La Porte Co, IN. They remained in La Porte County until the 1860s when they moved to Marion Twp, Linn, Iowa, and both recorded living there in 1870 census. While the date and location of Matilda's death has been retained in family history, no record of her burial is available. Matilda's daughter-in-law Eliza Ellison Ellithorpe was buried at Oakshade in Oct 1873, a few months after Matilda died, where Matilda is presumed to be buried too. Matilda's husband Samuel Ellithorpe died in 1874, and was buried in La Porte Co, IN - could also be buried with Samuel Ellithorpe.
