Tillie, as she was called by her family & friends, was the second child born to Joseph H. & Mary Jane (Lee) Huston. Her birthplace was rural Waukee, south of town on a farm in Boone Township. She has five brothers and sisters. She was a descendant of a prominent pioneer family. Her grandfather, James B. Huston, settled in Boone Township, Dallas County, Iowa, 12 miles west of Des Moines in 1849. He was born in Nelson County, Kentucky in 1811. He ran the station for the stage route and Post Office at his home until 1867, when the railroads came through. He was the first Dallas County Attorney. A cemetery was started at the corner of the farm to bury two little girls that died in route by wagon train to California. Then the Huston family buried several relatives there. When the roads were built in later years, the little cemetery was in the middle, so the road was divided and runs on each side of the cemetery. Thus it is called "The Little Cemetery in the Middle of the Road", and was in Ripley's "Believe it or Not". It is a historical sight. Tillie Huston and Henry Robison were married March 17, 1882. They were farmers in rural Waukee. They had two children. Della, their daughter, who married a Thomas and lived in Des Moines, had a son, Wesley Thomas, and a daughter, Helen Thomas Greer, Tillie's only grandchildren. Tillie's son, Clarence, who lived in a farm home just west of Maple Grove Rural Church, married, but had no children. When Tillie & Henry Robison retired from farming, they built a new home in Valley Junction, now called West Des Moines, at 621 5th. In 1922, Henry was struck and killed by an out of control car near downtown Valley Junction. Sometime after this, Tillie moved to Cumming, where she lived the rest of her years. Tillie had a sister, Nancy Huston Misner, who lived a half mile west of Cumming in the house by the Quaker Church for many years. Tillie loved her work in the church and was very faithful in her church attendance and support. In turn, the people of the Cumming Community Church were wonderful and kind to her. Tillie Robison celebrated her 100th birthday at the Cumming Community Church with a great party by the church and family. It was attended by many. A beautiful four tiered birthday cake was made by her granddaughter, Helen Greer. Her 100th birthday date was November 4, 1961. Tilled died in March 1962. She was buried beside her husband, Henry Robison, in the Waukee Cemetery just south of Waukee. (Story contributed by Mary Lou Spencer Marquardt.)
