Swalwell d. cert 26146 ------------ Matilda Isabelle Ball Swalwell, daughter of Frank and Anna Ball, was born near Collins, Iowa, on April 13th, 1892. She graduated from the Collins high school with honors. On April 20th, 1914, she was united in marriage with C. C. Swalwell. Early the next spring they emigrated to Minnesota to make a home and settle down on a farm. 'Twas on the farm she followed her husband to the altar in a tent meeting and found the Lord in saving power, which transformed her life, making her a new creature in Christ Jesus. From that day on, a family altar was established in the home around which she raised her children. She loved to read her Bible and read many chapters every day especially the last year. Soon after she was converted, she was sanctified wholly and walked in the Light to the best of her ability. As a young woman she said she would be willing to marry the man she loved, but not if he were a preacher. But when her husband was called into the ministry, without any reservations on her part, she took up the life of a pastor's wife filling this office in a most wonderful way for twenty-one years. Moving from place to place in several states she proved the power of God in her life to cope with every situation. She was a good wife and most excellent mother to her children as well as a leader in the church for righteousness. For a number of years she has been in declining health, and Wednesday of last week she went to the hospital in Kirksville, Mo. Then on Friday evening, August 27th, 1954, without warning she suffered a heart attack and in a few minutes had gone to be with her Lord at the age of 62 years, 4 months and 14 days. She leaves to mourn her departure a loving husband, Rev. C. C. Swalwell of Farmington, Iowa; four children, V. I. Swalwell of Westminster, Md., Mrs. Anna Von Seggen of Farmington, Iowa, Alice Hawkins of Olds, Iowa and Rosalie Cutler of Keosauqua, Iowa; one daughter-in-law, three sons-in-law, and seven grandchildren; four brothers and one sister; along with a host of other relatives and friends. Two children, Vincent and Glen died in infancy. She joined the Church of the Nazarene, the church of her choice in 1922 at Oskaloosa, Iowa. She was also a life member of the woman’s Foreign Missionary Society, and a Sunday School teacher of Junior boys and girls for many years. Her influence for good was wide and she will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Funeral services were held Tuesday, August 31, at 2:00 p.m., from the Church of the Nazarene, with Rev. Gene Phillips and Rev. James Fisher officiating. Interment was made in Greenglade Cemetery. Source: Scrapbook of Unknown Origin, page 111
