L RICKS Prominent Resident of Eureka Dies at Towle, Cal . Funeral Will Occur in This City Next Sunday. Mrs. H. L. Ricks is dead at Towle, Cal., after an illness of over a year. The remains will be brought to this city, her late residence, for interment at Myrtle Grove cemetery. The death occurred at midnight Wednesday, and Mrs. Ricks' husband and her brother, L F. Puter, of this city, were with her. Mrs. Ricks was taken to Towle, a little town in the Sierras, recently, from a San Francisco sanitarium in the hope that the change would be of benefit to her. But she rapidly declined and her husband and brother were summoned to her bedside only a few hours before death came. The funeral will take place at two o'clock Sunday from the family residence in this city. The dead woman was a native of California, and was thirty-nine years of age. She was very popular among her large list of acquaintances and the news of her demise was received with expressions of regret from all sides. She was born in the mining regions of Trinity county, but jer parents moved to Humboldt county when she was a small child. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Puter, were among the leading residents of Blue Lake. Both have been dead several years. Mrs. Ricks was married to H. L. Rieks, a prominent capitalist, twenty years ago. The deceased is survived by Mr. Ricks and four children. The children are Misses Adaline and Hazel and H. L., Jr., and Carson Ricks. She was a sister of Attorney F. L. Puter, of Eureka, and Stephen A. D. Puter, of Oakland. Humboldt Times, Volume XLI, Number 135, 7 June 1904 MRS. H. L. RICKS LAID TO REST Floral tributes in profusion at, the funeral of Mrs. H. L. Ricks, Sunday afternoon, showed the esteem in which she had been held by a large number of friends. The services were held at the family residence on G street, at which Rev. John T. Shurtleff, rector of Christ Church, officiated. A choir composed of Mesdames W. P. Pratt and J. C. Bull, Jr., and Messrs. W. N. Speegle and H. Way, rendered appropriate music at the house and grave. The pallbearers were: J. M. Carson, W. A. Littlefield, O. W. Lord, J. P. Mahan, C. J. Craddock and Dr. Robert Johnston. The interment was at Myrtle Grove cemetery.
