Richard Gilman officiating. Mrs. Torberson died June 12th, 1968 at the Canton Inwood Hospital. Melvin Juel was the soloist and Mrs. Kermit Helgerson played the organ for the services. Mrs. Matilda Thorberson was born May 20, 1888 at Platte, SD, the daughter of Peter and Maria Kjerstad, both natives of Norway. She attended the rural schools of Charles Mix County and was confirmed in the Lutheran Church at Bloomington, SD. She graduated from Augustana College, Canton, in 1910 and taught in the rural schools of Iowa, and in Lincoln, Pennington, and Charles Mix Counties of South Dakota. On September 2, 1914, she married Theodore Torberson at Canton. For a number of years they lived in Beresford, SD, but returned to Canton in 1936. She was a member of Canton Lutheran Church, the American Legion Auxiliary and the Women's Study Club of Canton. Mrs. Torberson was preceded in death by her husband. Survivors are her two sisters, Clara Kjerstad and Mrs. Laura Leavitt, both of Canton; one brother Emil Kjerstad, Quinn, SD; and several nieces and nephews.
