Description	:	Matilda Luella Schossow was born February 23, 1913, on a farm in Sac County Iowa where her parents, Ed and Ethel Groth lived for 33 years. She was one of five children. Matilda was baptized at the Presbyterian Church in Fonda, Iowa. She married Marvin Schossow on October 3, 1934 at the farm of her parents Children: Shirley (Mrs. Paul Stumpf) of Fonda, Dwayne of Longmont, Colorado; Colleen (Mrs Dan Walsh, of South Sioux City, Nebraska; Donald of Pocahontas, and David of Holstein. Matilda was baptized at the Presbyterian Church in Fonda, Iowa. She married Marvin Schossow on October 3, 1934 at the farm of her parents Children: Shirley (Mrs. Paul Stumpf) of Fonda, Dwayne of Longmont, Colorado; Colleen (Mrs Dan Walsh, of South Sioux City, Nebraska; Donald of Pocahontas, and David of Holstein. Matilda and Marvin lived on the Frank Mohr farm when they were first married, and then lived several other places until 1947 when they moved on her parent's farm where they continued to farm for the next 22 years. In 1944, Matilda began her very special career in Stanley Home Products. She stayed very active until she was semi-retired due to her failing health. She always said that she would not give it up. She always loved music and in 1959 a new interest arose in her life and became very special to her also. Her son, Don, started a musical band. Because of her love for music she assisted Don in buying equipment and assisted with the transportation of the group. In the early 1960's her dream of music continued when Colleen and David joined the group. From then until 1969 she traveled with her three children throughout four states. Then from 1969 until 1975 Don and Dave continued the band and she attended every dance that she could. The boys then found other interests and Matilda's heart was broken because her sons quit playing in the band. All her sons had at this time started a new career that both Marvin and Matilda loved — law enforcement. Dwayne of Longmont, Colorado in 1961 began a career in law enforcement and has served with four different departments His career ended October 20, 1978 because of a back injury and he is now on a medical retirement. Don of Pocahontas started in law enforcement in 1969 and is now serving his first term as Sheriff in Pocahontas County. Dave of Holstein, Iowa began his career in law enforcement in 1975 and is now working as a Deputy Sheriff in Ida County, Iowa Shirley and her husband farm near Fonda and Colleen and her husband own a business in South Sioux Sioux City, Nebraska. Both of Matilda's daughters loved to help their mother with her last interest and pastime, crocheting This became a big asset to the community and many of Matilda's items were sent all over the United States Matilda had 14 grandchildren, all of which she loved dearly She also had one great-granddaughter that she really enjoyed bouncing on her knee As many people know, Marvin and Tillie, as she liked to be called, loved playing bingo. She tried to play every night of the week that her health would allow One of her biggest hopes was to win the "Winner take All" game That wish came true last Thursday night Matilda should be remembered for her thoughtfulness, her willingness to help anyone, the love she had for her family, and the lovethat she showed towards her fellow human beings. Survivors include her husband, her children, her brothers and sisters, Mrs. Viola Bartlett of Sac City, Iowa; Mrs. Gail Widman (Helen) of Brewster, Minnesota, Chris Groth of Lake View, Iowa, and Ed Groth of Newell, Iowa; and her grandchildren and many friends and other relatives.
