Matilda Kramer, daughter of Robert and Mary Kramer was born in Montreal, Canada, May 19, 1877 and passed away, Nov. 11 at the Neligh hospital at the age of 78. She was the last of a family of ten children. At an early age, she moved with her family to Clarinda, Ia. A few years later, they came to Nebraska, where her father operated mills at Boyd, Bazile Mills and Henning. When she was 12, the family homesteaded two miles south of Orchard, where she received her education. In the blizzard of 1888, the pupils and teacher spent the night at their home. The family, then, moved to Brunswick, where they operated a hotel. The Buche Store now stands in that place. Later, they moved to Plainview, where she met Jake Straub of Attica, N. Y. They were married, Nov. 30, 1895 and lived on his homestead, five miles south of Plainview, residing there 31 years. They moved to Norfolk in 1926. Here Mr. Straub died Jan. 19, 1941. Seven children were born to this union. Grace Alvira died in infancy. Surviving children are Lorena Heyer of Brunswick, Ida McTee of Lincoln, Ruth Cercle of Chicago, Ill., Elsie Gast of Meadow Grove, Alta Walker of Omaha and Byron Straub of Plainview. She is also survived by 18 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. On March 28, 1943, Mrs. Straub married Lawrence Lake of Lincoln, who passed away at their home in Meadow Grove, Dec. 5, 1951. She, then, lived in Norfolk, frequently visiting her children. She united with the Methodist Church at Stark Valley many years ago and was a member of the Norfolk Methodist Church at the time of her death. ...The Creighton News 24 Oct 1955
