Meloy Mrs. Mathilda Meloy, Bernard's oldest resident and a respected pioneer of this territory, died at her home in Bernard, Tuesday morning at 6:30 o'clock after a ten day illness. Except for on previously grave illness last year, Mrs. Meloy had been in good health up to the time of her death. A true pioneer, she had experienced the hardships and trials of early life in this section. A woman of deeply religious nature, she had attended mass almost up to the time of her death. Mrs. Meloy was the last survivor of her family, all of her five sisters and two brothers preceding her in death. Born in Ireland as Mathilda Mulligan, she came to America and to Benton, Wis., in infancy with her parents, and settled in that mining center. She was married to John Meloy in St. Patrick's church at Benton in 1868. They moved to Bernard in Jackson county, where Mrs. Meloy lived until the death of her husband in August, 1917. Since that time she lived in Bernard with her daughter, Mrs. William Dwyer. She is survived by three daughters: Mrs. William Dwyer and Mrs. Dennis McDonnell, both of Bernard, and Bertie Meloy of Chicago, three sons, Louis F. Meloy, Walter R. Meloy and Joseph Meloy, all of Bernard. One daughter, Mrs. James Houlihan, and the oldest son, Elmer E. Meloy, Sr., preceded her in death. Twenty-three grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren also survive. The funeral will be held this (Thursday) morning to St. Patrick's church at North Garryowen, with burial in t h e adjoining cemetery.
