Description	:	Mrs. Matilda Schoenborn Mau, daughter of Gustav and Augusta Schoenborn, was born at Pomperanian, Germany, near Berlin, May 7, 1862. She was the third child in a family of four. When Mrs. Mau was ten years of age, her family emigrated to America, settling near Hampton, in Hamilton County, Nebraska. She was united in marriage to Charles Mau January 24, 1879. To this home... Read More	Mrs. Matilda Schoenborn Mau, daughter of Gustav and Augusta Schoenborn, was born at Pomperanian, Germany, near Berlin, May 7, 1862. She was the third child in a family of four. When Mrs. Mau was ten years of age, her family emigrated to America, settling near Hampton, in Hamilton County, Nebraska. She was united in marriage to Charles Mau January 24, 1879. Mr. Mau was a resident of Stanton Township, Fillmore County, Nebraska, and it was there they established themselves on a homestead, and there they spent nearly all of their years together. To this home came seven children, six of whom remain to bid farewell to their mother. They are Charles A. Mau of Sutton, Mrs. Rose M. Cruse, Mrs. Dora Russell and Walter C. Mau of Geneva, Mrs. Gusta King of Long Beach, Cal., and Mrs. Minnie L. Austin of Grand Island, Neb. Mr. and Mrs. Mau lived in the vicinity of Stanton township until May, 1924, at which time they retired from their labors on the farm, and moved to Geneva. Mr. Mau passed away on September 5 of that year. October 5, 1927, the home was again saddened by the death of a daughter and sister, Mrs. Anne Otte. Besides the six children, Mrs. Mau leaves one sister, Mrs. Anna Strenlow of Seward, Neb., fourteen grandchildren; twenty-six great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Mau was confirmed in the Lutheran faith at the age of thirteen. She carried the confidence of this faith to her dying moment, having received communion within the last week of her life. Death came Thursday evening, April 27, 1950, at 7 o’clock, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Reese Austin of Grand Island. Funeral services were held at the Geneva Congregational Church at 2 p.m. Monday, May 1, Rev. William G. Bohi officiating. Music was furnished by a male quartet, Wallace Swanson, Vaughn Fulton, C. M. Humphrey and Ralph Reemts. Mr. Reemts also sang a solo. Mrs. Willard Foster was at the organ. Pallbearers were Christie Biester, George Eaton, Melvin Ralston, A. J. Sackschewsky, H. C. Snyder and L. O. Swails. Interment was in the Geneva Cemetery. The Nebraska Signal May 4th, 1950 page 1.
