Description	:	Mrs. Matilda Shields Welch, who died in this city June 24th at the home of her daughter, Mrs. L. Rardin was born in Jamesville, Ohio April 7, 1817. Read More	Mrs. Matilda Shields Welch, who died in this city June 24th at the home of her daughter, Mrs. L. Rardin was born in Jamesville, Ohio April 7, 1817. At the tender age of ten she gave her heart and life into the keeping of the good Shepherd and for the subsequent 68 years of her pilgrimage was known as a humble follower of her Lord and an acceptable member of the Methodist Episcopal church. --------(unreadable) ------ Michigan she passed her early years in that state and at the age of twenty became the wife of David Welch, to whom she was married in 1837 at Lake Forest, Ill. Their home was blessed by the coming of nine children, to whom, as they came, she gave the loving care and watchfulness that only a true mother can bestow. In 1863, after twenty-six years of married life the home circle was broken by the death of her husband. This sad event did not shake her quiet faith in her Father’s love, but the current of her life flowed on in the ministries of home and in the Christian training of her family. The past three years, during which she has received the special care of her children, were years of failing strength, yet all through she has patiently waited, without a murmur, ------- should come. A life so prolonged, so gentle, so christlike, and a death so peaceful give fresh meaning to the words spoken long ago, “Let me die the death of the righteous, and let my land end be like his.” The heritage of a good name and the precious memory of a good life belong to the two brothers, seven children and many grandchildren who survive. Published Friday, June 28, 1895 pg. 4 Yankton, South Dakota. Matilda Shields Welch was the wife of David Welch. David and Matilda were married 26 November 1837 in McHenry, Illinois. They were the parents of Amanda, Cynthia, Martin, Phebe, Orrin Scott, Thomas and Ellen Matilda Welch. David Welch was the son of William W. Welch and Phebe Russell Welch.
