Irvin died Sunday morning, January 28, 1912, at her home, 921 East Sixth. Her death came suddenly, but was not wholly unexpected, as she has been having heart trouble for about a year. She had seemed perfectly well when she got up at the usual time Sunday morning. Mr. Irvin went to Sunday school, leaving her alone: on his return, he found her dead. She had fallen and apparently died without a struggle. As nearly as could be judged she had died some time between ten and eleven o'clock. The funeral will take place at ten o'clock tomorrow forenoon, at the home. Elder John Frazee, an old friend of the family will officiate. Burial will be made in Union cemetery. Mrs. Irvin was Miss Matilda Williams before her marriage, which took place fifty-two years ago. She was born at Walnut Hill, Illinois, January 2, 1843. She was married to James H. Irvin at Centralia, Illinois. They came to Kansas and settled on a claim near New Salem, November 12, 1871. This entitles them to be called early settlers of this county, in the true sense. Their claim is now the Sickles place. They moved to Winfield in 1885. At all times they have been held in the highest regard by their neighbors, and have brought up a large family of children to continue their useful work in the community. The children in the order of age, are John C. Irvin, of Wichita; Mrs. Ora Orand of Burden; Tracy Irvin of Winfield, Mrs. Mary Butts, deceased; Mrs. Anna Sorey, Highley, Arizona; and Carl Irvin of Winfield.
