He was born Nov. 30, 1923 in West Mineral to Matt and Mary Rauinkar Kotnek. He lived all of his life in the West Mineral and Cherokee area. He married Nora Margaret Bernardi on Nov. 20, 1951 at the St. Bridget's Catholic Church in Scammon. She survives of the home. He was a farmer all of his life and was a member of the St. Bridget's Catholic Church in Scammon, a member of the Scammon third degree Knights of Columbus, the SNPJ lodge No. 19, the AARP and the National Farmers Organization and Farm Bureau. Additional survivors include a daughter, Margaret Mary (Ross) Radlund of Scammon; a sister, Lena Potocnik of Texas; half-sister, Kathleen Gerant of Topeka; a step-sister, Lucy Vigna of Festus, Mo.; a step-brother, Albert Potocnik of Cherokee; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a step-father, Antone Potocnik; sisters, Frances Dollar, Mary Kral, Ann Stout, Rose Armbrust, and Elizabeth Kotnek; a brother, Pete Kotnek; half-brother, Robert Potocnik; step-sisters, Josephine Parsons; and Gail Knez; step-brothers, Tony Potocnik, John Potocnik and Rudy Potocnik. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the St. Bridget's Catholic Church in Scammon with Father Chrysostom Ah Maung as celebrant. Burial will follow in the St. Bridget's Cemetery also in Scammon. The Knights of Columbus rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. today at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Weir; the parish rosary will follow at 7 p.m. The family will receive friends following the parish rosary until 8 p.m. Friends may call after 2 p.m. today.
