Description	:	Born in Bosiljevo to John (Ivan) and Ana Vulakovic Stokan. Served in the Austro-Hungarian military. Married Frances Polich in House #40 in Hreljin in Nov 1900. Leaving his wife behind, he came to Canada about 1901 and worked on the Canadian Railroad. He went to WY, MT, ND to work in the mines. Frances joined Matt in Butte in 1906, and they had three sons born in Butte, MT: Joseph, Matthew and John. Served in the Austro-Hungarian military. Married Frances Polich in House #40 in Hreljin in Nov 1900. Leaving his wife behind, he came to Canada about 1901 and worked on the Canadian Railroad. He went to WY, MT, ND to work in the mines. Frances joined Matt in Butte in 1906, and they had three sons born in Butte, MT: Joseph, Matthew and John. Left Butte area about 1914, after being forced out of the mines due to "black lung" or consumption, and moved to Fortine, MT area to ranch. The family homesteaded on Grave Creek. Matt had worked the mines for 22 years before being forced out in 1913-1914, so it is assumed he worked the mines in Canada as well. He had a brother, Michael, that also worked in the Butte/Anaconda mines. It wasn't until stumbling across Miro Caic in Croatia that we were able to piece together more of this family's history. It was thanks to Miro we learned Matt was born in Bosiljevo, and what his mother's maiden name was. It was also thanks to Ken Biscan's work with Miro Caic we discovered more of the family in Pennsylvania and Ohio we were previously unaware of.
