Description	:	MA Barbee, 91, died peacefully Nov. 16, 2009, at home surrounded by his family. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Evelyn L. Barbee, and his daughter, Sue B. Morrow and husband, David, of Charlotte. He is survived by six sisters, Nola Whitley, Ruth Teeter, Rella Huneycutt, Geneve Eudy, Gatha Whitley and Avinelle Whitley, and a brother, Billy Joe Barbee. He was preceded in death by a son, Larry Barbee of Locust, who is survived by his wife, Judy Barbee. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Lela Whitley and Leola Smith, and a brother, J T Barbee. He was the son of the late Joe and Emma Barbee. MA was a devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who enjoyed taking all of them on trips "across the creek" to throw rocks across it. MA was a knitter at Wiscassett Hosiery Mill in Albemarle, Belvedere Hosiery in Charlotte, and retired from the sample department of Collins and Aikman in Albemarle. In retirement he assisted his son, Larry, in his horse business. They had many wonderful experiences traveling to horse shows across the country. He has five grandchildren, Kristi Morrow Butler and husband John of Cary, Jo Morrow of Peachtree City, Ga., Sherri Barbee of Denver, N.C., Beth Anne Aheron and husband Steve of Stoneville and Tanya Barbee of Locust. He also has 10 great-grandchildren, Carrie Butler Laughridge, Rachel Butler Hibbard, Evie Butler, Melea Butler, Joseph Morrow, Daniel Morrow, Caroline Morrow, Justice Aheron, Brandon Steele and Brittney Steele. A visitation will be held at Hartsell Funeral Home in Albemarle from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 18. A service to celebrate his life will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 19, at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Oakboro where he was a member. It will be conducted by Dr. Wayne Bennett and Rev. John M. Butler. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Stanly County or Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Frog Pond Road, Oakboro, NC.
