Matthew Shoe, 72, passed away at his home near Tocsin, at 10 o'clock this morning following an illness of pernicious anemia. He had been ill one year suffering from that fatal disease. He was also hurt badly in a fall last year. Mr. Shoe was a native of Trumble county, Ohio, the son of Benjamin and Sarah Shoe. His birthday date was June 2, 1856. He came to Wells county 38 years ago. He was married twice. His first wife was formerly Miss Jane Anderson, who preceded him in death. Three children were born to this union. He was married thirty-six years ago to Mrs. Mary Heckley Ruby, who survives him. Surviving by the first marriage is a son, Edward Shoe of Decatur. Two children by the second union are Lester and Raymond, both at home. Two step-daughters, Mrs. Willis Smith, north of Ossian, and Mrs. Chauncey Wilson, of Murray, also survive. There are also surviving seven grandchildren. Three brothers and one sister are deceased. He was a member of the United Brethren church of Hebron. The funeral will be held at the United Brethren church at Tocsin at 2:30 o'clock Saturday afternoon in charge of Rev. E. Hively of Ossian. A short service will be held at 2 o'clock at the house. Burial in the Tocsin cemetery.
