He graduated from Graf Independent School. He married Mary K. Schilling on July 4, 1959, in Peosta. He worked at the Dubuque Pack for 26 years, then for Terry Burd's Construction and retired from IOCO in maintenance. Babe was the son of Matthew and Mildred (Cole) Maas. He graduated from Graf Independent School. He married Mary K. Schilling on July 4, 1959, in Peosta. He worked at the Dubuque Pack for 26 years, then for Terry Burd's Construction and retired from IOCO in maintenance. He was a member of the St. John the Baptist Parish and also the Mayor of Graf for many years. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. Babe was loyal, hard-working, and lived his life to the fullest. He always had time for a laugh or to help out a friend or family member, especially if they had a cold Old Style waiting for him. His passions were watching Nascar - fan of Tony Stewart, fishing, hunting, particularly turkey hunting down south with the guys. Babe enjoyed spending time with his family, whether it was for 2 minutes or 2 weeks at a time. Surviving are his five children, Matthew "Butch"(Linda), and Mike (Sherry), both of Peosta, Marie(Bryan), of Dubuque, Mark (Terri), of Epworth, and Marty (Kristin), of Philadelphia; 14 grandchildren, Jennifer, Melissa, Eric, Mindy (Eric), Mandy (Jason), Michael, Nicole, Justin, Audri, Brianna, JoAnna, Stephanie, Mark and Michele; and great-granddaughters, Ariahna and Addyson and a great-grandson Karsen; three sisters: Arlene (Pete), Dorothy (Robert), and Donna (Jim), sisters-in-law Rita, Darlene, Carol, Jean (Virgil), and Madalyn, and brothers-in-law, Tom, Fred (Shirley), and John (Vicki). He was preceded in death by his beautiful wife Mary; parents Matt and Mildred Maas; and three sisters, Patty Maas, Helen Burds, and Marian Gloeckner; brothers-in-law Jimmy Schilling and David Schilling. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Matthew Maas Memorial Fund. NOTE: There is a discrepancy of the Date of Death: Funeral Home lists both May 12 and 13th as Date of Death.
