Description	:	Matthew Taylor Sr. and his wife, Janet, came from the vicinity of Londonderry, Ireland. They were one of the early settlers in Londonderry, New Hampshire, around 1722. Matthew Sr. was born circa 1690-1691 and d. Jan. 26, 1770 at Londonderry, NH. He signed his will Jan. 22, 1770, which was proved Jan. 31, 1770. Matthew Taylor, Sr. was a weaver and a farmer. There is NO proof that wife Janet's maiden name was Wilson although it says she was a "near" relative of Capt. James Wilson, who married Elizabeth Fulton, and who were the parents of "Ocean Mary.... The records also say that Jean Taggart, who married another James Wilson, son of Alexander Wilson and Olive Fox, was Janet's Niece. It seems unlikely that this James was her brother since none of her children or grandchildren have the names Alexander or Olive. She was living on Jan. 26, 1770, when her husband wrote his will, but no subsequent death record or gravestone has been found for her. I've seen death dates listed for her on ancestry as 29 Oct., 1796, but no source is given so there is no proof. Matthew and Janet had 10 children. The eldest 9 are of birth record at Londonderry, NH, with son Samuel in circa 1756-7 falling within the time period in which birth records are missing from the first of Londonderry's town books: John, Elenor, Agnes, Matthew, Janet, William, David, Adam, Martha, and Samuel. DNA R1a1a, M512 (updated 042915) ----- Regarding his transcription with trailing explanation of his age at death: HERE LYES THE BODY OF MATTHEW TAYLOR HE DIED JANUARY 26TH 1770 AGED 80 YEARS Consistent with how age at death was inscribed on gravestones through North America prior to the early 1800s, on the day Matthew died he was 79 years old, and Ætatis suæ (i.e., Æ, "Aged," in the XX year of his Age) 80. This indicates he was born AFTER January 26, 1689/90, as the latter date is historically written in the modern Gregorian calendar.
