Simons of Cedar Rapids, committed suicide by drinking carbolic acid and strychnine at the Metropolitan hotel in Omaha Saturday morning. Mr. Simons had been up in the Alaskan gold fields and while there contracted a disease which injured his mind and last summer he was taken to the St. Bernard hospital at Council Bluffs for treatment. He had so far recovered as to be allowed the freedom of the place. Friday afternoon about four o'clock he was missed from the hospital and that evening he registered at the Omaha hotel, went to his room, and remained up all night writing letters to his relatives. He was last seen alive at six o'clock in the morning and at eleven o'clock his body was found in his room, life being extinct. Mr. Simons was about thirty years old and possessed of some property. The family is well known here, having lived for a number of years on Timber Creek, and has the sympathy of their many friends here.
