Description	:	MRS. C. A. HOWARD Mattie A. Leffler, daughter of James and M. A. Leffler, was born October 16, 1876, and departed this life Feb. 21, 1939. She became a Christian early in life and strove to follow the teaching of the Bible for which she had great reverence. Dec. 10, 1902, she was united in marriage to Chas. A. Howard, who, with two children, James L. of Ft. Madison and Margaret L. at home, survive. Howard, who, with two children, James L. of Ft. Madison and Margaret L. at home, survive. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. James Leffler, also three brothers and one sister, Albert R., Oreldo, Florence and Omer. She was a devoted wife and mother and a loyal friend. Her greatest joy in life was serving her loved ones. Although chiefly concerned with the cares of home and family, her keen, inquiring mind took an active interest in the perplexing problems of the day. The many articles which she wrote for various magazines proclaim her a woman of high intelligence and clear thinking. She was a woman of high ideals and great integrity. It was a privilege to be counted among her friends. Funeral services were held in the Bentonsport Methodist church Friday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Jay N, Waterman, pastor of the Birmingham Methodist church. Music by Mr. and Mrs. Keith Gaston. Interment in Bentonsport cemetery. Source: Van Buren Co.
