Description	:	Mattie Grace Uhrhammer, 78, of 2475 Winne Ave died Friday, 6 Feb 1998, at Big Sky Care Center. She was born in Matagorla, TX to William (Bud) and Annie Hale in 1919 and grew up in the area with her five brothers. During WWII she worked as a flat bed and dump truck driver and welder until 1946. Read More	Mattie Grace Uhrhammer, 78, of 2475 Winne Ave died Friday, 6 Feb 1998, at Big Sky Care Center. She was born in Matagorla, TX to William (Bud) and Annie Hale in 1919 and grew up in the area with her five brothers. During WWII she worked as a flat bed and dump truck driver and welder until 1946. The call of the West came in June of 1946 and she moved to Coram, MT working as a cook, waitress and maid at many of the hotels and restaurants until 1957 when she married Vernon Uhrhammer in Kalispell. Vernon and Mattie worked and moved around the many logging towns in NW Montana, settling in the Lincoln area in 1963. Mattie worked as a cook and housekeeper and ran her own custodial service taking care of the Lincoln Ranger Station and Post Office until her retirement in 1993. She moved to Enumclaw, WA to live with her daughter Connie in 1995. A transfer brought Mattie and Connie back to Lincoln. She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon in 1985 and three brothers, Jim, Howard and Barnie Hale, and both parents. Survivors include a daughter, Connie Sue Sandvig and son-in-law Victor Sandvig; granddaughters Susan McLeod and Patty Pisony; grandson, Jim McLeod, great granddaughters Rio and Reed Pisony; and brothers, Jesse and Bud Hale. She lived life to the fullest enjoying hunting, fishing, trapping, gardening, sewing and carpentry, as she built and remodeled her cabin. Her last words were, "I have work to do now".
