DAVID ETTER Mrs. David Etter, life long resident of Lucas county, died at the Yocom hospital in Chariton on Saturday evening, August 11, 1934, at the age of 64 years and 3 months, after an illness of several weeks with a complication of troubles, and following an operation for appendicitis. Mattie M. Long, daughter of John and Mary Long, was born in Lucas county, Iowa, on May 4, 1869. She was married to David Etter on October 9, 1890, and to them five children were born. Two sons died in infancy. The children surviving are Frank Etter of Ottumwa; Mrs. Russell Byers of near Columbia; and Allen Etter, of Des Moines. Seven grandchildren and two brothers, Lincoln and John Long, of this vicinity, are also living. Many years ago Mrs. Etter united with the Bethel Brethren church and lived a consistent christian life until called to her eternal home. She was a devoted wife and mother, a splendid neighbor and a loyal friend. Her highest happiness came in assistance to others and her many deeds of kindness will long be gratefully remembered. Among those in attendance at the funeral services were Mr. and Mrs. Frank Etter and two children, Mr. and Mrs. Azel Savage and son and Mr. and Mrs. Martin Willoughby, all of Ottumwa; Mr. and Mrs. Allen Etter and son; and Mr. and Mrs. A. Swanson, of Des Moines.
