Description	:	Maude Nutter Short, 95, died Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2006, at Bozeman. Maude was born in Republican County, Kan., April 9, 1911, to George Nutter and Sarah Dallas Nutter. Her family moved to Hysham in 1916 where they later homesteaded up Sarpy Creek on Bear Creek. She went to school at Bear Creek, Hysham, and Howard. She and Allen J. Short were married in 1932, and they moved to the Gallatin Valley in 1935. She worked at the Gallatin Valley Seed Company picking peas and then she worked at the Shanty Cafe on North Seventh. She cooked and made pies. She... Read More	Maude Nutter Short, 95, died Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2006, at Bozeman. Maude was born in Republican County, Kan., April 9, 1911, to George Nutter and Sarah Dallas Nutter. Her family moved to Hysham in 1916 where they later homesteaded up Sarpy Creek on Bear Creek. She went to school at Bear Creek, Hysham, and Howard. She and Allen J. Short were married in 1932, and they moved to the Gallatin Valley in 1935. She worked at the Gallatin Valley Seed Company picking peas and then she worked at the Shanty Cafe on North Seventh. She cooked and made pies. She then went to work at the Sunset Cafe (Western) on East Main Street. She then went to Warm Springs and worked at the state hospital and later transferred over to Boulder to work with the mentally handicapped children. She dearly loved her job and all the kids. She retired from Boulder in 1974, then began cooking and making pies for Bungalow Drug. She retired in 1976 and spent her time raising a big garden and helping with grandchildren. They liked to go to grandma's and make cookies and do the fun things grandmas do. She did quite a bit of traveling with the seniors in Bozeman. She moved to Manhattan in 1991 to be closer to her son and daughter. She again started to garden and took care of her yard until she was 88 years old. She moved up to Churchill Retirement home in 1999 and then to the Gallatin Rest Home in 2005. She was preceded in death by her husband; son, Jesse; brother, Virgil Nutter; sister, Hope Delano; an infant brother and sister; and her parents. She is survived by son, Jim and Dorothy Short; daughter, DarLyne and Phil Olson; sister, Margaret Brouer Hogstad of Livingston; brother, Jack Nutter of Parker, Ariz.; 10 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; and daughter-in-law, Carol Francis.
