Description	:	Mrs. Maudie Alene (Barbar) Bridgman, lifelong resident of Newark, departed this life on Tuesday, December 11, 2018, at the age of 103. She was born June 16, 1915 at Newark, the daughter of William Amos and Rose Etta (Marshall) Barber. On May 6, 1933, Miss Maudie Barber married Mr. Hebert Franklin Bridgman, and had spent 52 years together at the time of his death in 1985. On May 6, 1933, Miss Maudie Barber married Mr. Hebert Franklin Bridgman, and had spent 52 years together at the time of his death in 1985. Mrs. Bridgman owned Maudie’s Beauty Shop, retiring after 60 years, at the age of 94. She loved her job as a beautician. Mrs. Bridgman enjoyed quilting, gardening, and cooking and canning. She was a member of the Newark Church of Christ. Mrs. Bridgman was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Hebert Franklin Bridgman; one granddaughter, Regina Gay Brooks; one brother, Marshall Reed Barber; six sisters, Eloise Alfred, Emma Jean Freeman, Blanche Rainwater, Eula Ingram, Willie Mae Dyles, and Mary Etta Davis; and her parents. She is survived by two daughters, Janice Brooks of Newark, and Julia Newman and husband, Ronnie, of Fort Worth, Texas; two brothers, Amos Roe Barber of Phoenix, Arizona, and Benny Dale Barber and wife, Judy, of Newport; one sister, Nina Wester and husband, Austin, of Austin, Texas; five grandchildren, Carla Layne of Oxford, Frankie Combs of Newport, Scottie Brooks of Newark, Keith Smotherman of Fort Worth, and Deronda Cardentey of Fort Worth; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews; and a lifetime of friends. Friends may visit at the funeral home, Thursday, 4:30-6:30 p.m. Funeral services are 1:00 p.m. Friday at Newark Church of Christ with Mr. Alex Mills officiating. Interment will follow in Blue Springs Cemetery.
