Description	:	RENO, Nev. - Maurice "Cork" Lindner was relieved of his constant and increasing pain by a merciful God at 10:50 p.m. at Northern Hospital in Reno, Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2003. His oldest daughter's dog marked his passing in Kerrville, Texas, with one mournful howl at exactly 12:50 p.m. His sons Mike and Mark, granddaughter Monique, and grandson Dominique, were holding him in their arms at his death after his wife, Dolores, and each of his out-of-state children were able to say their "I Love You's" by telephone. His oldest daughter's dog marked his passing in Kerrville, Texas, with one mournful howl at exactly 12:50 p.m. His sons Mike and Mark, granddaughter Monique, and grandson Dominique, were holding him in their arms at his death after his wife, Dolores, and each of his out-of-state children were able to say their "I Love You's" by telephone. Cork was born to Regina Jellesma and Carl Lindner, June 1, 1929, in Watertown, S.D. Cork and Dolores Porter married in Watertown in 1949 and, shortly after a tornado destroyed their house, moved with three young children under the age of 2 years old to Billings. They lived in Laurel, Billings and Great Falls, Mont., for the next years. Cork was an avid sportsman, gardener and member of the Catholic Church. As a sportsman and gardener, Cork provided the majority of food for his family. During his years of hunting, he supplied his family with wild game from pheasant, sage hen, turkey, geese, duck, venison, elk, antelope, moose, trout and perch. As a side benefit, his wife (also a hunter) and children were able to walk much of Montana while tracking wild game. They also learned to field strip, hang meat in the garage to cure in the Montana subzero temperatures, make jerky. Extra benefits included a totally wild game Thanksgiving and Christmas ornaments made from the beautiful feathers. Cork was incredibly imaginative and creative. As a gardener, his family had fresh vegetables in the summer and canned vegetables in the winter. He created his own greenhouse to compensate for the short Montana summers. As a result, he was able to harvest an abundance of vegetables each year. Although Cork suffered in pain in these final years, his devotion to gardening continued right up to his death. Besides friends, many doctors, nurses and hospital staff received his largess. Cork was a devoted member of the Catholic Church. He was the kind of man who, without fanfare, always helped with whatever needed to be done. One of his friends here said that they will need three people to replace Cork and all the work he did for the Church. He was the same way with people around him. If someone became ill, he made sure he took them to their doctor appointments, shopped for groceries and did any house repairs that were needed. Cork worked in trucking and construction in Watertown; Laurel, Billings and Great Falls; Casper, Wyo.; Winslow, Ariz.; Kerrville; and Reno. He is remembered for his imagination and logic as a general manager and vice-president and appreciated for his work in construction. He is survived by his wife Dolores and their six children: daughter Deborah Lindner Vetter (husband Lany) and grandchildren Patrick and Kristen of Kerrville; his son, Michael (wife Jan) and grandchildren Jennifer and Jonathan of Bend, Ore.; son Mark (wife Susan), grandchildren Dominique and Monique of Reno; son Randall (wife Michelle), grandchildren Dan, Ryan and Joseph of Spring (Houston), Texas; daughter Valerie and grandchildren Nicole and Chantell of Scottsdale, Ariz.; and son John of Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Cork's death is a profound loss for his family, but they praise God for his mercy. Cork is also survived by his brothers, Carl and Jane Lindner of Michigan, Eugene and Sue Lindner of Colorado, Joan (Schaeffer) Drovdal, Lloyd and Gwen Schaeffer of South Dakota, Toni (Schaeffer) and Keith Halverson of South Dakota, Anne (Schaeffer) McCullough of Colorado, and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial mass will be held on Monday, Aug. 25, at 12:10 p.m. at St. Thomas of Aquinas Cathedral, Second and Arlington, Reno. Arrangements are under the direction of Walton's Sierra Chapel, 875 W.
