Read More	M. FITZHUGH ROWE INSTANTLY KILLED Young Man Home From University For Weekend Loses Life In Auto Accident. FUNERAL TODAY Maurice Mitzhugh Rowe, youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Alvin T. Rowe, of this city, was laid to rest in the family lot in City Cemetery this afternoon following funeral services at the home on Princess Anne street conducted by the Rev. R. V. Lancaster, pastor of the Presbyterian church. The tragic death of the young man in an automobile accident Saturday night was one of the most distressing cases in this city in many years, the entire community being saddened by the misfortune which ended almost at the beginning of a career of great promise. Young Mr. Rowe, who came home from the University of Virginia Saturday afternoon for a week-end with his parents, was instantly killed about 9:30 o'clock Saturday night when the car he was driving collided with another machine, plunged into a telephone pole, breaking it off, and careened into the side of a building where it came to rest. Rowe, who was driving his father's sedan, was dead when extricated from the wreckage, a violent blow on the side of his head having caused instant death. Companions Slightly Hurt. His companions, William Price, of Beckley, West Virginia, a class-mate at the University of Virginia who accompanied him home for the week-end, and Miss Kitty Reed, of Fredericksburg, student at the State Teachers College, received minor injuries.. The fatal accident occurred on the Richmond-Washington highway a short distance this side of the Falmouth bridge. The three students were en route to Stafford county for a social call when Rowe's car after passing a machine going in the same direction was in collision with the automobile of H. C. Daniels, of Spotsylvania county, coming towards this city. Daniels' car was badly damaged by the impact but he was unhurt and he retained control of his machine. Circumstances in connection with the accident show that a front wheel of Rowe's car was broken off in the collision with Daniels' machine, causing him to lose control, the car swerving violently and striking the telephone pole with much force. A Promising Career. Fitz Rowe, as he was known by his comrades, was a likeable fellow whose friends were legion. Born and raised in Fredericksburg he was acquainted with almost everyone in the community and his happy nature and genial disposition made him uniformly popular. As a youth he exhibited qualities of character and a natural aptitude in the things he undertook which gave promise of high achievement in later life. His earnestness of purpose and the zeal with which he mastered his problems were assurances that he would have climbed high toward the pinnacle of success in later life. After graduating from Fredericksburg High School, he attended Davidson College in North Carolina for four years, graduating in 1929 with the A. B. Degree. Last fall he started on a cruise around the world on the steamship Patrick Henry and many of his letters to his parents recounting his experiences and impressions in distant lands were published in this paper being read with eager interest by thousands of people. His world tour was concluded early in the summer and this fall he entered the University of Virginia as a law student. He was 22 years old, having observed his birthday anniversary just a month ago. Survived by Two Brothers. He is survived by his parents and two brothers, Alvin T. Rowe, jr., American Consul at Bluefields, Nicaragua, and Carter H. Rowe, medical student at Harvard University. Pitzhugh Rowe was a member of the Fredericksburg Presbyterian church and during the time spent at home he was a regular attendant. The pallbearers this afternoon were: William J. Rowe, T. S. D. Ninde, John Young, William W. Butzner, jr., E. T. Faulkner, jr., Lemuel W. Houston, all of this city; James Woolridge, Bluefield, West Virginia, and Alfred Burgess, of Greer, South Carolina, the latter two being class-mates of the deceased at the University of Virginia.
