Burial in St. Francis Cemetery, where military rites will be accorded by the American Legion Post 137 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7736. Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. today at Kramer Funeral Home, Dyersville, where there will be a parish scripture service at 4 p.m. and an American Legion/VFW service at 7 p.m. He was born Nov. 3, 1920, in Petersburg, the son of Herman and Ella (Scherbring) Willenborg. He married Helen J. Naber on Nov. 9, 1943, in St. Francis Xavier Basilica. He received his education in the Petersburg school, and was a member of St. Francis Xavier Basilica in Dyersville. He served overseas in the European Theater of Operations for 24 months with the 531st AAA (Anti Aircraft Artillery Automatic Weapons) Battalion, attached to the 30th Infantry Division under General Patton. He received the Purple Heart Award, United States Army for wounds received in action on Dec. 23, 1944, in Belgium. He received five major battle stars, and served from the Normandy Invasion to the Battle of the Bulge. He was honorably discharged on Oct. 31, 1945. He farmed at Petersburg for 39 years and worked at Modernfold and Lumber Specialties, retiring in Dyersville. He was a former board member of the Dyersville Community Hospital, past member of the Parish Council at Ss. Peter & Paul Parish in Petersburg, a member of the American Legion of Dyersville, Post 137, a lifelong member of the VFW Post 7736 of New Vienna, and the Dyersville Sportsman. Maurice loved his wife and family, liked to help people, and loved the neighborhood children. He enjoyed gardening and flowers, and especially liked to decorate his house and yard with many Christmas lights and decorations. Surviving are his wife, Helen J. Willenborg, of Dyersville; four daughters, Carla (William) Aldershof, of Pewaukee, Wis., Lola (Dean) Baragary, of Winthrop, Paula Forest, of Iowa City, and Nyla (Randy) Pettinger, of Eden Prairie, Minn.; five grandchildren, Jeffrey (Dana) Baum, Jonathan (Tina) Baum, Elizabeth Forest, Zachary and Abby Pettinger; two great-grandchildren, Jesse and Emily Baum; three step-grandchildren, Julie Horne, Leslie George, Sean Baragary; a brother, Marvin (Caryl) Willenborg; two brothers-in-law, Lee Krapfl, Donald "Bud" (Betty) Naber; two sisters-in-law, Kay Naber and Sally Naber; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Marcia Lynn, in 1953; two sisters, Doris Willenborg and Mildred Krapfl; and two brothers-in-law, William Naber and Robert Naber. Memorials may be given in Maurice's name to Camp Courageous, Beckman High School and Hospice. The family of Maurice would like to thank Dr. T.
