Mr. Shepard was born June 8, 1912 at Thayer, Kans., the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ray S. Shepard. He was a veteran of World War II and served overseas in Europe. He was a member of the IOOF Lodge. Shepard, a farmer of the Ames community, died Wednesday night at St. Joseph Hospital following a short illness. He was 61. Mr. Shepard was born June 8, 1912 at Thayer, Kans., the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ray S. Shepard. He was a veteran of World War II and served overseas in Europe. He was a member of the IOOF Lodge. On June 30, 1934 he was married to Velma Gerard in Washington, Kans. He was a resident of Cloud county for the past 50 years and worked as a mechanic and auto repairman in Concordia. The past 20 years he had been engaged in farming. Survivors are his wife; 2 brothers, lee Shepard of Ames; and Raymond Shepard of Coweta, Okla.; one sister, Maxine now Mrs. David Mills of Lemon Grove, Calif.; a half brother, William Wayland, of Tabool, Mo.' his father-in-law, Lonnie Gerard, of Concordia; nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 6 in the Chaput Funeral Home with Rev. Robert Fleenor officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant Hill cemetery. The family of Mr. Shepard requests that those wishing to give memorials please give them to the heart Monitor fund at St. Joseph Hospital.
