Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, August 23, 2009 in Independent Farane Cemetery. Memorial services will follow at 2:40 p.m. today at Congregation Beth Shalom, with Rabbi Guy Greene officiating. There will be no visitation. Maurice was born Aug. 27, 1910, in Sioux City, the son of Harry and Fannie (Ricklin) Wutkin. He graduated from Central High School. Maurice was a decorated World War II veteran, serving in the Infantry in France and England for two years, where he was wounded and discharged and given the Purple Heart. He was a member of the European Theatre and Jewish War Veterans. Maurice married Lylian Erma Rosella Schultz on March 13, 1937, in Sioux City. She preceded him in death on March 17, 2008. Maurice was owner and operator of Myer Beef Packing Company from 1959 to 1979. He was partners with Myer Epstein and Howard Wistman. He lived in Sioux City all of his life. Maurice was a 60-year member of the Abu Bekr Shrine and sponsored a horse for the White Horse Mounted Patrol. He was a faithful 50-plus year member of the United Orthodox Synagogue, never missing a Sabbath or High Holy Day service. Survivors include Steve Wutkin of Omaha; special friends, Ruth and Gordon Lebowich of Sioux City; and special friends for over 20 years and honorary pallbearers, Earl Deits, Harlan Schlumbaum and Carl Zimmerman. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and a brother, Izzy Wutkin. Memorials may be made in his name to United Orthodox Synagogue. A special thanks to Home Instead Senior Care to the seven caretakers for their five-year around-the-clock care. He loved to travel and entertain. Lylian and Maurice often threw amazing themed parties. He also loved baseball and was a huge fan of the Chicago Cubs.
