Description	:	Maurine Dirks June 23,1912 - May 16,2001 Funeral services for Maurine Dirks, 88, were held Saturday, May 19,2001, at the First Presbyterian Church, Monticello, with interment in Oakwood Cemetery. Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello, was in charge of arrangements. Survivors include four sons: Kermit (Trudy) of Ames, H. Keith (JoAnn) of Center Junction, Brad (Lynda) of Arnber, Will (Linden) of Derby, Kans.; a sister, Holyce Manley of Preston; eight grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, LeRoy, and a brother, Jack Stingley. Maurine Stingley was born June 23, 1912 at Robinson, Iowa, the daughter of Harry and Ethel Moses Stingley. She received her education in the Center Junction schools where she graduated in 1930. She continued her education at the Francis Shimer College in Mount Carroll, I11. She taught at Scotch Grove School #8. Maurine Stingley and LeRoy G. Dirks were married June 15, 1933 at her parents' home near Center Junction. The couple lived in Anamosa for a brief time until they returned to farm near Center Junction. He died in 1961 and she moved to Monlicello in 1962. Maurine Dirks was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Monticello and Center Junction. She also belonged to the Delphian Society and the P.E.O. She was also the first woman named to the Jones County School Board. Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, Monticello.
