Description	:	The Salem (SD) Special July 12, 1923 Mauritz Huls was born on April 10, 1836, in the village of Selvade, Holland, at Bredenbrock Densperloop, Holland. To this union were born six children, three sons and three daughters, two of whom preceded their father in death, Theodore passing away at the age of twenty-two, on July 16, 1894, and Adelaide Schmitt on Christmas Day in the year 1911. Read More	The Salem (SD) Special July 12, 1923 Mauritz Huls was born on April 10, 1836, in the village of Selvade, Holland, at Bredenbrock Densperloop, Holland. To this union were born six children, three sons and three daughters, two of whom preceded their father in death, Theodore passing away at the age of twenty-two, on July 16, 1894, and Adelaide Schmitt on Christmas Day in the year 1911. In 1868 Mr. Huls brought his family to America and settled near Hollandtown, Brown county, Wis. Six years later the family moved to Carroll county, Iowa, where they lived for seven years, coming to Salem, South Dakota in 1881, and homesteading on what is now the Henry Kolbeck farm, two and a half miles north of Salem. In 1902 Mr. Huls, with wife and son, Mauritz, moved to Nez Perce, Idaho, where they made their home until death called him on Thursday, July 5, 1923, at 9 a.m., at the age of 87 years, 2 months, and 25 days. Deceased is survived by his wife, two sons, William and Mauritz, both of Salem, and two daughters, Mrs. Dorothea Tervooren, of Clarkston, Wash., and Mrs. Wilhelmina Werner, of Montrose. Thirty-three grandchildren, and twenty great-grandchildren, besides numerous other relatives also survive. His wife and surviving children, excepting Mrs. Tervooren, were at his bedside when he died. Deceased was a life-long and faithful member of the Catholic church, and a good citizen, loved and respected by all who knew him. Funeral services were held at St. Mary's Catholic church on Saturday morning, Rt. Rev.
