Mavis was born November 2, 1921 in Anoka, NE to Elmer and Clara (Bengston) Tishendorf. She grew up on a farm in Boyd County in Nebraska and moved to Niobrara, NE in September 1935. Mavis was born November 2, 1921 in Anoka, NE to Elmer and Clara (Bengston) Tishendorf. She grew up on a farm in Boyd County in Nebraska and moved to Niobrara, NE in September 1935. She was baptized December, 1921 and confirmed in December, 1935 both at Messiah Lutheran Church. She attended grade school at Anoka, NE and District 58 and was a 1939 graduate of Niobrara High School. Mavis married Albert Heidemann on December 25, 1940 in Niobrara. Albert died on April 4, 2000. While in Niobrara, she clerked and was co-manager of the Farmers Union store. The couple moved to Pilger, NE in 1955. She clerked at Ralph’s IGA and spent seven years at the Pilger newspaper. They moved to Fremont in September, 1969. Mavis was a Dietary Aide at the Fremont Care Center for 20 years, retiring in February, 2000. Mavis was a member of St. Timothy Lutheran Church in Fremont. She served on church council, was a Sunday School Superintendent and teacher, President of the W-ELCA, funeral lunch coordinator, one of the organizers for Mentally Challenged Ministries at St. Timothy for 38 years, a Girl Scout leader and member of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 69 at Pilger. In 2011, Mavis received the Human Rights Award from Church Women United, Inc., United Nations Office for leadership and service to her community. She also wrote the “Golden Voice” in the Fremont Tribune for many years. She is survived by son, Richard and wife, Ann Heidemann of Fremont; daughters, Linda Heidemann of Fremont and Jo and husband, Dennis Jenkins of Loveland, CO; brothers, Robert Tishendorf of Louisville, NE and David and wife, Mary Tishendorf of Tieton, WA; sisters, Gwenn Holmlund of McLean, VA and Mary Burdick of Desoto, KS; five grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Albert; sister, June Skole; brothers-in-law Guenther Skole, Ron Holmlund and Bruce Burdick; sister-in-law, Phyllis Tishendorf and grandson, Karl Jon Heidemann. Funeral service will be 10:00 A.M., Monday December 15, 2014 at St. Timothy Lutheran Church in Fremont. The Rev. Russell McDowell will officiate. Visitation will be Sunday with family receiving friends from 4 PM to 7 PM at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Memorial Cemetery in Fremont. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be given to the Mission Fund at St. Timothy Lutheran Church in Fremont.
