She was the daughter of: Joseph and Katherine (Bloch) Owach. Mavis attended Fairview School in rural Yankton County and graduated in 1945 from Yankton High School. She received her nurse's training at Sacred Heart School of Nursing in Yankton, graduating in 1948. She worked as a registered nurse at hospitals in Yankton, South Dakota, Storm Lake; Buena Vista County, Iowa and Omaha; Douglas County, Nebraska. In 1955, she attended Sacred Heart School of Anesthesia in Yankton, South Dakota. She then served as a nurse-anesthetist at Saint Joseph Mercy Hospital, Lutheran Hospital, Methodist Hospital and Saint Vincent Hospital, all in Sioux City. She was at St. Vincent's for 10 years. She retired in 1967 to devote full time to her family. She married Dewie Gaul at Sacred Heart Church in Yankton, South Dakota and they lived in Sioux City; Woodbury County, Iowa for the following 55 years. Her children attended Saint Joseph School and Heelan High School in Sioux City, Iowa. She was a member of Saint Joseph Parish and the parish guild, serving a term as president of the guild. She also served as a Cub Scouts den mother. She enjoyed traveling, going to rummage sales and caring for her grandchildren. She also enjoyed cooking and was an avid collector of cookbooks. Mavis Georgia (Owach) Gaul, age: 84, passed away on Wednesday; March 14, 2012, at a Sioux City, Iowa hospital. Those left to mourn her passing are: Her husband of 55 years: Dewie; her six children: Jackie (Victor) Charbel of Eagan; Dakota County, Minnesota, Sandra of Dubuque; Dubuque County, Iowa, Thomas of Des Moines; Polk County, Iowa, Robert "Bouf" (Nancy) of Inverness; Cook County, Illinois, Randal (Patty) of Sioux City, Iowa and Laurie (Frank "Bink") Crisler of Arlington; Kingsbury County, South Dakota. Her eight grandchildren: Melanie Pemble of Mankato; Blue Earth County, Minnesota, Anthony Enderle of Burnsville; Dakota County, Minnesota, Gabrielle Charbel of Saint Paul; Ramsey County, Minnesota, Michael Charbel of Eagan, Minnesota, Sarah Gaul and Christopher Gaul, both of Sioux City, Iowa, Allison (Joe) Green of Garretson; Minnehaha County, South Dakota and Dan Crisler of Arlington, Iowa. Her great-grandson: Jack Pemble of Mankato, Minnesota. Her siblings: Angela Lindstrom of Yankton, South Dakota; Elmer (Dorothy) Cwach of Gering; Scotts Bluff County, Nebraska and several nieces, nephews, cousins,other relatives and a host of friends. Mavis was preceded in death by her parents; her grandson: Matthew Gaul; her siblings: Clarence & Luvern; and her sister: Lorraine Dallas. May they rest in peace. May God bless her memory and give strength to those that mourn. Visitation will be from: 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with a vigil service at 7:00 p.m. on Friday; March 16, 2012 at the Christy~Smith Larkin Chapel. Funeral services will begin at: 10:30 a.m. on Saturday; March 17, 2012 at the Saint Joseph's Catholic Church with Father Michael Erpelding officiating. Interment will be at the Calvary Cemetery. Memorials in Mavis' honor may be directed to the Saint Joseph Church, Heelan High School or the donor's favorite charity.
