Description	:	Mavis Mary Eva Silvernagel attended a rural school, grew up on a farm and enjoyed books, children, music and dancing. As a girl, she had a small gray kitten named Polly she adored. Read More	Mavis Mary Eva Silvernagel attended a rural school, grew up on a farm and enjoyed books, children, music and dancing. As a girl, she had a small gray kitten named Polly she adored. Polly would follow Mavis step by step up the stairs where Mavis would put her in a basket or under the bed or behind the stove, where Polly would stay until Mavis came back to get her. Mavis lived with her parents until 1992 when she left to make her home with her sister Arlouine Grad in Herreid. Mavis enjoyed making coffee for her friends and family who would come to visit and later she would do the dishes when they left. Mavis was a very special member of the family and a very strong thread in the fabric of the family. Often Mavis was responsible for strengthening the faith of her family by just being herself. For the past couple years her health had been declining and more recently she had been hospitalized numerous times. Mavis died Saturday, Feb. 11, 2006, at the Mobridge Regional Hospital at the age of 66. She was born May 27, 1939, to George Peter and Magdalena (Scherr) Silvernagel on the farm where her parents were living north of Strasburg, N.D. In 1941 the family moved to the Silvernagel farm 5 1/2 miles west of Strasburg where Mavis grew up. She leaves three sisters, Rose (Ray) Nagel-Volk of Linton, N.D., Arlouine Grad and Eileen (James) Weisbeck, both of Herreid; two brothers, Kenneth (Rose) Silvernagel of Billings, Mont., and Wylis Silvernagel of Amery, Wis.; sisters-in-law, Clara Silvernagel, Virginia Silvernagel and Fern (Rudy) Reisinger; brother-in-law Ira Eckert; and many loving and caring aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Her parents, sister Ann Eckert, brothers Felix, Alex and Leo, and brothers-in-law, Don Grad and Frank Nagel, preceded her in death. Mass of Christian Burial for Mavis was celebrated Friday, Feb. 17, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Herreid with Fr. Mike Kelly as celebrant. A Scriptural prayer service was held the preceding evening at the church. Mass servers were Jessica and Jennifer Schwartz. Fran Hulm and Sheila Gustafson were lectors. Eucharistic Ministers were Loren and Megan Grad. Dean Schmitz, Bob Witta and Scott Graff were ushers. The offertory was by Aaron Grad, Kelsey Silvernagel, Brooke Graff and Landen Weisbeck with Gail Witta as the offertory guide. Casketbearers were Gary Nagel, Ira Weisbeck, Neil Weisbeck, Gary Grad, Darnell Silvernagel, Dean Weisbeck, Gayln Grad and Glen Grad. Burial was in St. Peter & Paul Catholic Cemetery in Strasburg under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. Mobridge Tribune February 22, 2006
