Description	:	Max Donly Ruchert was born June 3, 1924, at Pomeroy to Henry and Elvira Robertson Ruchert. He attended school at Holy Rosary Catholic School and Pomeroy Elementary. He graduated from Pomeroy High School in 1942. He was a member of the boxing team, PHS letterman's club and was a member of the Future Farmers of America. He enrolled at Washington State College but was forced to return home after becoming ill at college. He then went to work on the farm with his father. He married his high school sweetheart, Janice Armstrong, on May 14, 1944.... Read More	Max Donly Ruchert was born June 3, 1924, at Pomeroy to Henry and Elvira Robertson Ruchert. He attended school at Holy Rosary Catholic School and Pomeroy Elementary. He graduated from Pomeroy High School in 1942. He was a member of the boxing team, PHS letterman's club and was a member of the Future Farmers of America. He enrolled at Washington State College but was forced to return home after becoming ill at college. He then went to work on the farm with his father. He married his high school sweetheart, Janice Armstrong, on May 14, 1944. They enjoyed nearly 72 years of marriage together. His entire life was devoted to farming and raising cattle. After selling the farm and retiring to Pomeroy in 1995, he continued to raise a garden at the home in Pomeroy and also one on some property farmed by his son. His favorite pastime was watching his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren participate in any activities. He enjoyed hunting deer and elk in the Blue Mountains and camping with friends. He picked huckleberries and hunted mushrooms until he was no longer able to get around. After being confined to the nursing home in Pomeroy, he continued to be a supporter of the Gonzaga Bulldogs, watching endless cooking shows and playing bingo. Preceding him in death were his wife, Janice; his parents; a brother, Gordon; sisters Rachel VanAusdle, Lois Wallace and Phyllis McKiernan; and a still-born grandson, Mitchell Bryan Ruchert. He wished to be cremated, and there will be a memorial at a later date. Richardson-Brown Funeral Home in Pomeroy is in charge of arrangements.
