Max was 31 years and five months of age. He attended school in Bayard, Guthrie Center, Jamaica and Bagley. He was graduated from Bagley high school with the class of 1941. Read More	Bayard News November 17, 1955 Page 6 Max Edmund Sammon was born near Bayard June 2, 1924, and passed away November 7, 1955, at Mt. Alto hospital, Washington, D. C. after a long illness. Max was 31 years and five months of age. He attended school in Bayard, Guthrie Center, Jamaica and Bagley. He was graduated from Bagley high school with the class of 1941. In Jamaica he served as an altar boy for five years at St. Joseph's church and was also a member of the Boy Scouts. His first enlistment in the Navy was in 1941 during which he saw action in both the Atlantic and Pacific zones as a radioman on board the Battleships USS South Dakota and USS Alabama and also took part in the African campaign. After his first enlistment Max returned home and was employed at the Garst store in Coon Rapids for a year. He re-elisted in the Navy in 1949 and served aboard the USS Yosemite. July 1, 1950 he was married to Constance Lefebvre in Newport, Rhode Island. He finished his last two years of duty in Quantnamo Bay, Cuba, and lived in Washington, D. C. after returning to the States. He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Constance of Washington, D C; his mother, Mrs. Kathryne Sammon of Des Moines; his sister, Jean Franks of Denver, Colo;, a niece, Kathryns Franks and a nephew, John Franks of Denver; his grandmother, Mrs. Ella Sammon of Bayard; his uncles, Ralph and John Sammon of Bayard; Maurice Doran of Auburn, Calif; bis aunts, Jewell Lockwood and Bonnie Sammon of Washington, D. C., Mrs. John Horan of Bayard, Mrs. Bernard Moylan of Des Moines, Mrs. John Miller of Coon Rapids and Mrs. Sam Allender of Alhambra, Calif. Funeral services were held at St Patrick's church in Bayard Friday, Nov. 11, at 9 a m. with the Rev. Father M G Kelliher officiating. Casketbearers were George Meinecke, Jr., Arthur McDermott, Thomas Lyons, Jr., James Murrane, Jr., Douglas Schreck and Max Poole. Military services were conducted at Willow cemetery by firing squads from the Jamaica and Bayard American Legion posts. Lt. Com Robert J. Moore of Chicago, serving as military escort presented the American flag to Mrs. Constance Sammon.
