Description	:	Max Huebner was born in Germany not far from Berlin to Herman Huebner and Pauline Luepke Huebner. According to grandson, Raymond Huebner, Jr., his full name was Max Julius Paul Huebner. He was born near Berlin, Germany, but the family actually lived in eastern German not far from the Poland border and they were traveling when Max was born. The family came to the USA and settled in Clinton, Iowa in 1885 apparently with 4 siblings: Hilda (d. 1969), Emil (b. 1886 in Clinton; d. 1973 in Clinton); Otto (b. 1888 probably in Clinton; d. 1955 in Iowa City, IA), and Minna (b. 1890 in Clinton, IA; d. 1977 in Morrison, IL). On May 12, 1909,Max married Anna Hansine Christine Holgersen (b. 11/7/1885 in Clinton, IA; d. 2/10/1962 in Clinton)and the marriage took place in Clinton, IA. Max and Anna had three children: Raymond H. Huebner, Sr. (b. 3/10/1910 in Clinton, IA ; d. 5/18/1968 in Freeport, IL); Lillian Huebner Dame (b. 10/25/1911 in Clinton, IA; d. 3/21/1979 in Bradenton, FL); and Dorothy Huebner Burke (b.1/24/1914 in Clinton, IA; d. 2/2/1994 in Clinton, IA). Max's granddaughter Betty Dame Korsch captures Max Huebner's essence as she remembers, "My grandfather Max was a very kind man. He was several inches shorter than my grandmother. He had dark hair and brown eyes--even in his old age he was slow to grey. He took an interest in his grandchildren and showed them much love. He loved to carve things out of wood. He also loved to drink beer and for many years the Friday and Saturday night pastime was to start out with Grandma (and Grandchildren if we were visiting them) and visit four or five different taverns where he had a beer or two in each one (and we had a soda) and where they met and visited their friends. Grandpa built the house where my mother and her sister and brother were raised--and he lived there until he died. One of my fond memories of summer visits was the front porch where each night after an early supper and dishes we would sit out on the porch swing and talk to neighbors walking by or sitting on their porches until it was dark. Then we'd go in and listen to the radio a bit before our bedtime snack out at the kitchen table, which was usually prunes...Grandpa's favorite before bedtime snack." Max retired from Curtis Co. in 1953 where he was a cabinet maker. He belonged to the Zion Lutheran Church and the Fraternal Order of Eagles. Max died of cancer at age 89 in Mercy Hospital on November 20, 1972 and is buried with his wife Anna, who preceded him in death.
