Born May 20, 1934, in Clinton, he was the son of Louisa Andresen and Max Kaczinski Sr. On April 6, 1956, he married Marlene Ann Bence in Des Moines. She preceded him in death on Oct. 18, 1973. Born May 20, 1934, in Clinton, he was the son of Louisa Andresen and Max Kaczinski Sr. On April 6, 1956, he married Marlene Ann Bence in Des Moines. She preceded him in death on Oct. 18, 1973. He married Elizabeth "Jane" Finke on Nov. 23, 1974, in Burlington. Mr. Kaczinski was a lifelong farmer in the DeWitt area and worked 39 years for Farm Bureau Insurance before retiring in 2002. He received numerous company awards, including the Golden Eagle and President's Award. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Washington. He was a member of Knights of Columbus and Columbus Club in Washington, American Cancer Society and the Optimist Club where he achieved the distinction of "Honor Lieutenant Governor" in 2002 to 2003. He also was involved in Life Underwriters Training Council. He was an Iowa Hawkeyes fan and held season football tickets for more than 30 years. Survivors include his wife; three sons, James Kaczinski of Stuart, Larry Kaczinski of Gladstone, Ill., and Mike Kaczinski of New London; two daughters, Mary Ann Reiling of Denison and Cindy Evans of Chatham, Ill.; 11 grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; seven sisters, Marcella Schaefer of Muscatine, Betty Loussaert of Long Grove, Virgen Thiel of Medford, Wis., Pat Cahill of Delmar, Beverly Peterman of DeWitt, Sandra McLeland of West Des Moines, and Judith Tschudi of Harrisonburg, Va.; two brothers, Paul Kaczinski of North Liberty and Kenneth Kaczinski of Grand Mound; and many nieces and nephews. Besides his first wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, two infant brothers and two infant sisters. Visitation will be Monday at Jones Eden Funeral Home in Washington, with family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. A prayer service will begin at 6 p.m. The Mass of Resurrection will be Tuesday at St. James Catholic Church in Washington. Before and after his Army service, he farmed in the DeWitt area before joining Farm Bureau Insurance in 1963, where he retired in 2002 after 39 years of service. He received numerous company awards, including the Golden Eagle and President's Award. During his career Max also was involved in Life Underwriters Training Council (LUTC), where he moderated training classes. Max was a member of the St. James Catholic Church in Washington and was involved in parish activities. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and Columbus Club in Washington. Over the years Max was involved in many civic and community organizations, including the American Cancer Society and the Optimist Club where he achieved the distinction of "Honor Lieutenant Governor" 2002-2003. Max was always the first to help family, friends and neighbors. He was a great fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes, having held season football tickets for over 30 years. He is survived by his wife; children, Mary Ann (David) Reiling of Denison, James (Kristy) Kaczinski of Stuart, Larry (Becky) Kaczinski of Gladstone, Ill., Mike (Dawn) Kaczinski of New London, and Cindy (Rex) Evans of Chatham, Ill.; 11 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; siblings, Marcella Schaefer of Muscatine, Betty Loussaert of Long Grove, Virgen Thiel of Medford, Wis., Pat (Jack) Cahill of Delmar, Beverly (Ed) Peterman of DeWitt, Paul (Arlene) Kaczinski of North Liberty, Sandra McLeland of West Des Moines, Judith Tschudi of Harrisonburg, Va., and Kenneth (Lillian) Kaczinski of Grand Mound; and many nieces and nephews. He also was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, two infant brothers, two infant sisters and four brothers-in-law.
