Seirer, son of Parker V. [1896-] and Ruth Hooper Seirer [1897-], WaKeeney, Kansas retired March 31, 1970 from the Air Force after 27 years, 3 months and 24 days. He entered service on December 7 1942 as an Aviation Cadet and was commissioned a 2nd Lt on July 1, 1944 as a Bombardier. In October 1944 he was assigned to the 464th Bomb Group in Italy where he flew combat in B-24s. On December 26, 1944 he was shot down on a raid over the oil fields in East Germany and was declared missing in action. He and members of his crew were found by local towns people and kept safe. He returned to Allied control in February 1945 and subsequently returned to the United States on May 31, 1945. September 1945, Lt Colonel Seirer separated from the service and was a civilian for 23 months before returning to service in August 1947. In October 1948 he was assigned overseas duty in Okinawa and in October 1949 he was transferred to the 19th Bomb Group in Guam. While with the 10th, he flew combat missions over Korea in B-29s. On his return to the United States, Lt Colonel Seirer was assigned to Randolph AFB Texas as an instructor bombardier. In 1954 he was selected to go to Navigator up-grade school. After completion he went to the Air Force Survival School at Stead AFB, Nevada and then to the Strategic Air Command at Homestead AFB Florida. In 1959 he was transferred to McConnell AFB Kansas; in 1963 to Davis Monthan AFB, Tucson Arizona; and in 1964 to Lincoln AFB, Lincoln Nebraska. At all these bases he flew B-47s. 1966 found Lt Colonel Seirer being transferred to the Tactical Air command at Langley AFB Virginia and to a new airplane, the C-130. During the USS Pueblo Crisis in January 1968, Lt Colonel Seirer spent three months temporary duty (TDY) in Korea and in June 1968 he received orders of transfer to Chin Chank Kang (CCK) air Base, Taiwan, where he was stationed until just prior to his retirement. While stationed at CCK, he was TDY to Viet Nam much of the time. Lt Colonel Seirer's service career included three tours of combat, totaling 110 combat missions, and has been awarded the Bronze Star, Air Medal with 4 Oak Leaf clusters, Air Force Commendation Medal, and 17+ other awards and citations. While in the service he participated in community affairs. He is a member of Lancasti Lodge No. 54 of Lincoln, Nebraska, Masonic Lodge, Yanmingshan Chapter No. 5 Order of the Easter Star in Taipei, Taiwan; the Taipei Consistory for 32nd Degree Mason, and the AFJFI Shrine Temple in Tacoma Washington. Lt Colonel Seirer and his wife, Joy, have three children. Major W.L. Seirer, stationed at Hickam AFB Hawaii; Mrs. Carl G. Decker, of Freehold New Jersey, and Mrs Allen B. Musick of Tyndall AFB Florida. They are also grandparents seven times. Lt Colonel Seirer's wife, Joy, is the daughter of Mrs. Louis (Eleanor) Campbell [1895-] of Alexandria, Louisiana and the late Louis Campbell [1888-1965]. Lt Colonel and Mrs Seirer plan to travel some before settling down in Waco Texas. " ---
