He was born May 8, 1917 in rural Chautauqua County, Kansas to Willie H. and Jewel (Appleby) Vaughan. He was educated in Pleasant Hill schoolhouse and Grenola High School. He graduated from Cedar Vale High School in 1937 and attended one year at Cowley County Community College in Arkansas City, Kansas. Read More	Max Mayo Vaughan, age 92, of Cedar Vale, Kansas passed away Wednesday, February 10, 2010 at the Pleasant Valley Manor in Sedan. He was born May 8, 1917 in rural Chautauqua County, Kansas to Willie H. and Jewel (Appleby) Vaughan. He was educated in Pleasant Hill schoolhouse and Grenola High School. He graduated from Cedar Vale High School in 1937 and attended one year at Cowley County Community College in Arkansas City, Kansas. He served in the United States Army Air Corps from 1942 to 1946 during World War II as a radar technician. He married Dorothy Shrope on March 19, 1959 in Tijuana, Mexico. He is survived by his wife Dorothy Vaughan of the home in Cedar Vale, Kansas; one daughter, Dorothy Hall of Cedar Vale, Kansas; two brothers, Victor Vaughan and his wife Virginia of Wichita, Kansas and Willie Vaughan, Jr. and his wife Elizabeth of Winfield, Kansas; five grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; seventeen nieces and nephews; twenty-four plus great-nieces and nephews; sixteen plus great-great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one infant brother Vance Leon; a half brother Haldean; brothers Wayne and Jay and a sister Jean Pack and one son James Shrope. Family and Friends may call from 12:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., Sunday, February 14, 2010 at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Sedan with the family greeting friends from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held Monday, February 15, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at the Grenola United Methodist Church with Chaplain Larry Womacks officiating. Burial will follow at the Greenlawn Cemetery in Grenola, Kansas. The family has suggested memorials to the Grenola United Methodist Church, Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice or church of donor's choice in care of the David W. Barnes Funeral Home 209 N.
