He was a member of the Windfall Christian Church and served over 30 years on the Windfall Town Board. He also loved to travel, hunt and trap. Survivors besides his wife Shirley include two children, Barry Retherford and wife Cathy, Galena, Ohio, and Jill Fiscus and husband Alan, Russiaville; one brother Rex Retherford and wife Patricia, Safety Harbor, Florida and one sister Janet Sowash, Converse; five grandsons Adam, Aaron, Ryan Retherford and Eric and Evan Fiscus. Max was preceded in death by one brother Keith Retherford and a sister Geraldine Matchette. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 20, at Young-Nichols Funeral Home with Rev. Carl Roudebush presiding. Burial will follow in Brookside Cemetery, Windfall, with military honors. Visitation will be from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Windfall Christian Church, 211 N. Independence Street, Windfall, Indiana 46076.
