Read More	Parents: John Wesley & Annie Della Scales Gates Husband: Claude H George Sr WESTFIELD, NC ~ Mrs. Maxie Lee Gates George, 89, of Westfield, the wife of Claude H. George Sr., passed away Friday, April 23, 2004, at the Northern Hospital of Surry County. Mrs. George was born Oct. 25, 1914, in Patrick County, Va., to the late John Wesley and Annie Della Scales Gates. Mrs. George was a homemaker and a member of the Westfield Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Claude H. George Sr. of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Sybil and Daymor Inman of Mount Airy; a son, Claude H. George Jr. of Garden City, S.C.; three grandchildren, Della, Adrian and Dylan George, all of South Carolina; and two sisters, Vergie Inscore of Mount Airy and Louise Berry of Durham. Mrs. George was preceded in death by four sisters, Irene Smith, Eva Carter, Lena Inman and Gladys Scales; and four brothers, Elmer Gates, Cecil Gates, Wesley Gates and Nelson Gates. The funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 25, at the Westfield Baptist Church, with the service conducted by the Rev. Joel Stephens and the Rev. Odell Sisk. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The George family will receive friends from 2:15 to 3 p.m. Sunday at the Westfield Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to the Westfield Baptist Church Cemetery, c/o John Kuhl, 3230 Old Westfield Road, Pilot Mountain, NC 27041.
