Maxine, the daughter of Frank and Blanche (Appuhn) Lee was born March 10, 1915 at Greenwood, NE. Maxine graduated from high school in 1934. She worked as a housekeeper, saving her money until she had saved enough to enroll in Beauty College in Lincoln, NE. She was united in marriage to Emery C. Read More	Maxine Anita Pearl Kalvelage, of Neligh, NE., formerly of Clearwater, NE., passed away Friday, March 15, 2013, at Antelope Memorial Hospital in Neligh, NE. Maxine, the daughter of Frank and Blanche (Appuhn) Lee was born March 10, 1915 at Greenwood, NE. Maxine graduated from high school in 1934. She worked as a housekeeper, saving her money until she had saved enough to enroll in Beauty College in Lincoln, NE. She was united in marriage to Emery C. Carey on June 16, 1938 at St. Paul's Methodist Church in Lincoln, NE. Maxine worked as a beautician at various beauty shops in Lincoln, NE. including the Cosmotique. In 1941 they moved to Clearwater, NE. where Emery worked at the Byron Hemenway Ranch. In 1954 they moved to Sidney, ME. where Emery barbered and Maxine continued fixing hair. They returned to Clearwater, NE. in 1959 and purchased the Hemenway Ranch. Maxine continued to work as a beautician at various locations in the Clearwater, NE. community. Emery passed away in 1971. Maxine married Ray Kalvelage on December 12, 1976 at Neligh. She continued her beauty work, owing and operating "Maxine's Beauty Shop" in Neligh, NE. from 1974 until 1989 when she retired. They made their home in Neligh, Aurora and Clearwater, NE. before returning to Neligh, NE. in 2008 when they entered The Willows. They enjoyed traveling together and took many vacations including one to Australia and a cruise to Alaska. Surviving Maxine are: step-children: John Kalvelage (Cathy) Newbury Park, Ca; Rayann Hale (Authur) of 29 Palms, CA; Max Donaldson-Kalvelage of Fresno, CA; Jane Motel (Vincent) Norco, CA; Paul Donaldson-Kalvelage of Sacramento, CA; 13 step grandchildren; 11 Step-great grandchildren, brother Philip (Eileen) Lee of Ewing, NE; Brother-in-law Giles Cary of Olympia, WA; along with numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Maxine was preceded in death by: husbands, Emery Carey and Raymond Kalvelage; sisters, Fern Cooper and Pauline Lee and brothers, Francis and Wayne Lee. Interment was in the Clearwater Cemetery, Clearwater, NE.
