Selin, 84, a lifetime Harborite, went home to the loving arms of her Lord and Savior, Friday, June 15, 2012, at Grays Harbor Community Hospital, after a long courageous battle with Myleodeplastic Syndromes (MDS). Maxine was born on September 12, 1927, in Elma, Washington, to John A. and Dorothy Esther (Utter) Lewin. The family moved to Aberdeen, Washington, when she was a small child where she attended Aberdeen schools. Maxine was a gifted musician and excelled both vocally and instrumentally. She was involved in the Weatherwax High School Orchestras playing several instruments during her high school years; however her talents were always focused on praising her Heavenly Father. From a child, Maxine had a strong calling to the work of God. She sang, played the piano, organ, accordion, violin and many other instruments in Harbor churches and eventually became an ordained minister. In 1948, she married the Rev. Henry Ray Blanchard. They spent several years ministering together in various Harbor churches, lastly in Colville, Washington, at the time of her husband’s unexpected death. After returning to the Harbor with her two sons, she later married Lester A Selin on August 2, 1958. Maxine returned to the Lord’s service on the Harbor and attended the Hoquiam Bethel Temple that later became Harbor Assembly of God for a total of over 50 years and most recently attended Heritage family church. One of ten children, family was always a very important part of Maxine’s life. Her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were her very precious treasures. She loved to bake cookies and pastries for family holidays and everyone looked forward to her “Jewel Cake” at Christmas. Maxine is survived by her husband Lester A. Selin of the family home in Aberdeen; three sons, Jerry Blanchard (Carmen) of Aberdeen, Art Blanchard (Jean) of Aberdeen and Lester T. Selin (Cindy) of Montesano; one daughter, Maxine M. Selin of Arlington, Washington, nine grandchildren, four great grand children, five brothers, John Lewin, Jr., (LaVerna) of Shelton, Robert Lewin, Sr. (Jeannie) of Aberdeen, Harold Lewin, Sr., of Olympia, Gerald Lewin Sr., (Mary June) of Green Bay, Wisconsin and Delbert Lewin (Carol) of Tumwater, four sisters, Bessie Deering of Hoquiam, Ida Mae Eldred of Oakville, Lois Root (Glen) of Shelton and Donna Brooks of Aberdeen. Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, an infant brother Arthur Lewin and her infant daughter, Mary Ann Selin. Visitation will be from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm on Tuesday, June 19, 2012, and Wednesday, June 20, 2012, at the Coleman Mortuary, 422 – 5th Street in Hoquiam. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday, June 21, 2012, at the Heritage Family Church, 111 West Wishkah Street in Aberdeen. Concluding services with vault interment will follow at the Elma Masonic Cemetery. A potluck gathering of family and friends will be at 3:00 pm at the Cosmopolis Lions Club. The family requests that memorials be sent to the Heritage Family Church kitchen construction fund.
