She died Saturday, August 21, 2004 at Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison, Iowa at the age of eighty-three. Maxine received her elementary education in a rural school near her home and graduated from the Dow City High School with the class of 1939. On December 22, 1939, she was united in marriage to Edlef Jurgensen. The couple settled on a farm near Arion and was blessed with the birth of a daughter, Shirley. The couple farmed near Arion for five years and then moved to and farmed in the Schleswig area until 1968, when they purchased the Oasis in Denison, which they operated for ten years. Maxine and Edlef then retired and moved to Schleswig. In her spare time, she enjoyed sewing, embroidery, baking, and in her younger years, dancing. She loved her family very much and enjoyed spending time with them, even attending as many of their sports events as possible. She was a member of the United Presbyterian Church in Denison, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Edlef in 2001; three sisters: Bernice McCoy and her husband, Bill; Lucille Krayenhagen and her husband, Marvin; and Evelyn Kinney and her husband Reed; and one brother, Earl Andresen. She is survived by her daughter, Shirley Kastner and her husband, Loren of Schleswig, Iowa; three grandchildren: Corey Kastner and his wife, Deanna of Sibley, Iowa; Cal Kastner and his wife, Tracy of Schleswig, Iowa; and Trudi Andernacht and her husband, Craig of Kansas City, Kansas; four great-grandchildren, Courtney Plotz and her husband, Tyler of Havelock, North Carolina; Calvin Kastner of Sibley, Iowa; and Cara and Cierra Kastner of Schleswig, Iowa; one great-great-grandchild, Tavian Plotz of Havelock, North Carolina; one sister-in-law, Esther Andresen of Schleswig, Iowa; many relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, August 24, 2004 at the United Presbyterian Church in Denison, Iowa. Dr. Richard Shaffer officiated the service and grave side rites held at the Crawford Heights Memory Gardens in Denison. Marilynn Jepsen provided the organ accompaniment for soloist, Rubie Kastner as she sang, "In The Garden" and "How Great Thou Art". Those serving as pallbearers were: Marlan Krayenhagen, Melvin Krayenhagen, Roger Friedrichsen, Robert Andersen, Donald Kinney and Dale Kinney. The family invited everyone at the service to join them at the church in fellowship and lunch served by the Presbyterian Women. The Huebner Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of the arrangements.
