She was born August 4, 1928 in Floris, to William C. and Reva Fisk Hart. She married John Merle Ash in October 8, 1947. He preceded her in death on December 13, 1987. Obituary From "The Ottumwa Courier," August 27, 2015: OTTUMWA — Maxine Ruth Ash, 87, of Ottumwa, died at 6:45 a.m. August 26, 2015 at the Good Samaritan Society-Ottumwa. She was born August 4, 1928 in Floris, to William C. and Reva Fisk Hart. She married John Merle Ash in October 8, 1947. He preceded her in death on December 13, 1987. Maxine had worked for over 20 years at John Morrell & Co. and for over 20 years at Sunnyslope Care Center. She was an avid golfer and was an Ottumwa City Champion. Surviving are two daughters, Lois K. (Jim) Applegate of West Burlington and Linda S. (Stephen) Covert of Ottumwa; four grandchildren, Angela Campbell of Burlington, Allen (Carrie) Applegate of West Burlington, John Covert of Ottumwa and Kristina (Dan) Hance of Bloomfield; four great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; two step-great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; four sisters, Meryle Mullenix, Mary Long, Betty Hendrich and Joyce Hart; four brothers, Billy, Carl, Paul and Evert Hart. Graveside services and burial will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Shaul Cemetery with Pastor Melvin Mattox officiating. Visitation begins at 11 a.m. Friday at Reece Funeral Home with the family present from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Friday. Memorials may be made to Good Samaritan Society Hospice or American Cancer Society.
